ayesha75-2Every woman loves dresses but there is one particular style, which is popular over others called the ‘Wrap Dress’. Wrap dresses have proven to be successful time and time again. But there is something you didn’t know, how and who invented the sensational and most versatile dress

The modern version of the wrap dress came about in the 1970’s. Even though wrap dresses have been around for centuries in forms of toga and kimono, but the refined and sportier version was introduced by Diane Von Furstenberg in 1975.

P1According to an online source, ‘wrap dress began as a cotton jersey shirtdress, similar to a wrapped dancer’s sweater. And just a few years later, in 1974, the shirt prototype was elongated into the fabulous frock commonly known as the wrap dress. Season after season, the wrap dress gets updated with new colors, novelty fabrications and edgy trims.

p2A wrap dress can be causal or dressier depending on the fabrication and the detailing. In the market currently you will encounter wrap dresses in all sorts of fabrication from, knit, woven, silk, cotton, linen, and many others.

Wrap dresses are very versatile and can be worn solo or with tights. Some wrap dresses are cut short to go with skinny jeans or cropped leggings.

The wrap dress was instantly popular with the professional workingwoman who needed wearable, stylish clothes for work. The magic to wrap is that it flatters all body types and flows with you body.

p3The wrap dress can be ultra feminine depending on the cut of the dress. The fitted high waist and generous flare at the hem depicts elegance and feminity. Drop waist or rather low waist in conjunction with a straight skirt is sportier and casual.

Length is varied in wrap dresses from knee length to ankle length. Here are examples of wrap dresses when accessorized properly can give different appearance. Ankle length wrap dress combined with boots and oversize sling bag looks bohemian.

p4Flare wrap dress paired with high heels and belt is polished, whereas mid calf length worn with ballerina or flats seems relaxed and casual.

Personally, I believe wrap dresses are very chic and sophisticated. There is elegance and a lot of style to the wearer when worn a wrap dress. Wrap dresses follow the curve of the body and makes the wear appear goddess like. They are great to have for almost any occasion. They are perfect for work, evening out and even for the weekend for a luncheon.

For a mod look, opt for a crisp cotton wrap dress in earth tone and turn up the collar for a sharp clean cut look, make sure the sleeve length are æ and go easy on the accessories by carrying a chunky bag with simple jewelry. You will make heads turn….all the way!
