LAHORE: Inspector General of Punjab Police, Tariq Saleem Dogar has ordered an inquiry against a DSP after demoting him to OSD for accusing police higher-ups on pressurizing him to release a dacoit, Geo News reported Monday.
Meanwhile, the DSP defying the orders, said he would continue functioning as is.
DSP Imran Babar Jameel stationed at Rang Mahal Circle in Lahore city, capital of Pakistan’s largest province Punjab, told Geo he arrested a dacoit few days back which led to the arrest of the coterie’s head.
‘But later on, CIA police chief and divisional officer threatened me of dire consequences for not releasing the dacoit,’ he told Geo.
The Punjab IG formed a two-member inquiry committee comprising of the DIG and AIG, after downgrading the DSP to OSD. On this, people in large numbers gathered outside the police station and protested in favour of the DSP.
DSP Imran Babar revealed that the two dacoits were released in the dark of the night, adding he does not accept departmental inquiry, Geo News reported today.
