Business community cautiously reacted on an issue of mutual statement last Tuesday in New Delhi post wrapping up of a two day talk which took place between the respective commerce secretaries of India and Pakistan.

Mian Ibrar Ahmad welcomed relieving of Pakistan-India business community’s visa restrictions. He referred the visa denial as non-tariff barrier as it banned businessmen to market products in one another’s country.
Ahmad also claimed that they had raised the concern with Zafar Mahmood, Pakistan’s Commerce Secretary prior to his India visit.
Mr Ahmad also supported government’s move for liberalising trade regimes in India thereby stating that in liberalised trade regime both countries are likely to have win-win situation.
As per the mutual statement, both sides approved pushing the business visa arrangements liberalisation further but did not mention any deadline on relaxation of visa issuance for business community.
Yashir Sakhi Butt, President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry stated that the announcements did not matter provided such decisions had not been executed in spirit and litter.
The joint statement also stated that they are expecting expert groups to reach to an ultimate perceptive on grid connectivity amongst Pakistan and India at the upcoming meeting to be held in December.
