Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the general elections will be held in the country by 2013 only. He said that the government was not facing any threat and free, fair and transparent elections are scheduled in 2013.

Talking to the media here in Islamabad, the prime minister said the government firmly believes in democracy and is following law and constitution. He said further, “We respect the mandate given by the people to the political parties.”
A secret memo to Washington claimed that President Asif Ali Zardari feared a military coup after the May killing of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Husain Haqqani resigned as Pakistan’s ambassador to the US and former minister Sherry Rehman was appointed the new envoy.
Haqqani’s resignation for clean probe- Gilani
Hussain Haqqani’s resignation from the post of ambassador to US will be helpful for a clean probe in the matter of national security, said Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday. Gilani informed to the National Assembly that the government accepted Hussain Haqqani’s resignation for a ‘clean’ probe. According to the news reports, Gilani said that the government was only answerable to the people of Pakistan. Stating government’s worry, he said “Government and the opposition have sacrificed a lot for the survival of democracy in the country.” The Prime Minister said that the army and government were on the same page.
