Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi to Take Strict Action for UP Debacle

New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi is all set to take strict action against non-performers in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, reported Times of India.

According to the newspaper, the senior Congress leader may take action against some Union Ministers too, belonging to the state. Source close to Rahul Gandhi says that the Congress leader believes that it’s right time to crack down against the saboteurs in the state organization.

TOI quoted Rahul Gandhi as saying at a meeting of party MLAs from Uttar Pradesh: “My hands may be soft, but they will take harsh action.”

Sources said that there were complaints of sabotage against some Union Ministers and MLAs from the state. During the election campaign, Steel minister Beni Prasad Verma, coal minister Sriprakash Jaiswal and law minister Salman Khurshid faced severe criticism for their alleged statements regarding Muslim quota and Batala House encounter.

Not only this, Central Ministers engaged in lose talking such as central rule after the elections. Political experts believe that such utterances from the senior party leaders didn’t go well with the voters and they decided to keep away from the Congress party.

Rahul Gandhi found out that the feud inside the party was also responsible for the debacle. Barabanki MP P L Punia continued his attack against Beni Prasad Verma during the election campaigning, but no one in party dared to question him.

Kanpur MLA Ajay Kapoor spoke against minister Jaiswal for campaigning against him. Times of India quoted a Minister as saying: “Rahul had been betrayed by people he trusted, in what was seen as an assault on Verma.”
