Although it has officially been claimed that 23-year-old Alexa Ray Joel – the singer and songwriter daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley took sleeping pills to commit suicide, sources claim she had taken the homeopathic antihistamine Traumeel.
Billy Joel told media today his daughter will be “fine” following her alleged suicide bid.
Alexa Ray Joel – daughter of the ‘Piano Man’ singer and ex-wife Christie Brinkley – was rushed to hospital on Saturday (Dec 5) when she was discovered by her friend after reportedly taking eight sleeping pills.
She was treated at New York’s St. Vincent Hospital before being released later that evening.
Her famous father’s representative said: “She is in a stable condition. She is going to be fine.”
A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: “Her friend said Alexa had taken pills and was feeling despondent. She said she wasn’t feeling good about herself.”
In August, Alexa described herself on her MySpace page as "forgotten".
She also revealed she hated dating and considered herself "terrible" at it.
Alexa – who split up from boyfriend bandmate Jimmy Riot twice last year – wrote: "I HATE the game-playing! Can’t stand it."
"She has battled depression," a source told the Daily News. "She had a rough breakup with a boyfriend . . . It was her first love."
Alexa Ray is the only daughter of Joel and Brinkley, whose nine-year marriage ended in divorce in 1994.
