UPDATE: The 23-year-old Nigerian national suspect who was on board the Detroit bound plane Flight 253 from Amsterdam attempted to detonate an explosive or some kind of device on board when he was restrained by the passengers, CNN’s national security contributor told CNN.

The Delta Northwest Flight 253 suspect, who is a Nigerian national claims to have affiliation with some extremist organization, CNN reported in its 6 o’ clock news bulletin today.

Earlier reports said the suspect ignited a fire cracker inside Flight 253. Now it is being reported that the suspect may have detonated some kind of an explosive device.

The terror suspect has been moved to a hospital with injuries as he attempted to light some kind of “a small explosive device” and not a ‘fire cracker’, it is being speculated.

Delta Flight 253, an Airbus 330, carrying 278 passengers, was arriving in Detroit from Amsterdam when the Nigerian passenger set off a firecracker aboard the plane, it was first reported.

Delta Northwest’s Flight 253 which originated from Amsterdam was close to Detroit when the incident happened.

MSNBC also reported that an “explosive device” went off in the lap of the 23-year-old Nigerian man aboard the Northwest Airlines flight 253 sometime before landing in Detroit on Friday.

The incident is being viewed as a possible terrorist attack. A U.S. counter-terrorism official told MSNBC that the man left Lagos, Nigeria, on Thursday, then boarded the Northwest flight in Amsterdam Friday.

President Obama is being kept informed of the incident and the steps being taken by the Homeland Security, CNN reported.

Hopefully Homeland Security (an oxymoron?) will not be in charge of the investigation, and hopefully they realize they have to read him his Miranda rights, allow him one phone call, and not talk until his lawyer is present!

I heard on the radio this morning that the terrorist on FLT253 didn’t have a passport. How could he fly from Amsterdam to Detroit without a passport?

We can’t blame this on Bush even though he authorized wire taps on suspected terrorist and encouraged the CIA to exploit the Al Queda organization wherever possible.

The Homeland Security Chief said “the system worked” shortly after she learned of the incident on FLT253. What the hell was she talking about? We can only assume the “system” she was referring to was the brave passengers who subdued the terrorist. It certainly did not involve an effort from Homeland Security.

Treating terrorist as if they’re US citizens with rights guaranteed under the US Constitution doesn’t seem to please anyone except the terrorist and quite a few countries (re, the UN) who would welcome the fall of the US.

Mr. Obama is going to get all, and more, of the publicity he craves from the trial of the terrorist in NY City. A horrendous mistake and the biggest blunder he’s made to date. By the time he, and the liberal media, realize “this ain’t Chicago” the harm will have been done.

For those that think I’m over stating my case, think, MSNBC calls Al Qaeda “some extremist organization” and “The incident is being viewed as a possible terrorist attack”. Yeah right. Get real you nincompoops.
