Iranian authorities today detained sister of Nobel Peace Laureate Shirin Ebadi. Three Iranian officials including a woman visited Nobel peace prize winner’s sister in Tehran, searched her home, confiscated her computer before arresting her.
The arrest was made around 9 PM local time. Ebadi is worried about the incident as her sister is not politically active nor is she linked with the Iranian opposition at all, CNN reported quoting the peace prize winner.
Shirin Ebadi had left Iran the day before the presidential election in June 2009. She remains actively involved in human rights activities.
The news of Ebadi sister’s detention comes amid reports of further mass crackdown in Iran and death toll reaching 12 in Tehran and hundreds arrested as the opposition continues with its protests.
President Obama offered support Monday to the anti-government protesters in Iran, but some analysts say the United States should do more besides rhetoric.
