Indian Guru Arrested in Oz for Sexually Assaulting Women

DESPARDES News Monitor – Australian law enforcement authorities have arrested a self-proclaimed Indian spiritual guru for allegedly sexually assaulting two women during prayer meetings.

According to The Indian Express, 38-year-old Anand Giri, a yoga expert, was arrested from down under’s Oxley Park, Sydney. over charges of two counts of indecency with two women in separate incidents.

Anand Giri Facebook account has pictures of him with the likes of Indian ministers including Yogi Adityanath.

Both incidents happened during 2016 and 2018. According to a report, Giri assaulted a woman in 2016 when he was attending a prayer meet in Rooty Hill. In the second incident, he assaulted a 34-year-old woman in November 2018.

Giri, who was touring Australia at the time, was named in both the complainants, Australian police said.

Giri’s Facebook page is now non-functional. Heis last post said, “My mission is to serve others and somehow contribute to making this world a better place, I serve those in need I am not a priest but simply a man who has found his soul”.

Giri’s account had photographs of him with the likes of known Indian ministers including Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

The accused guru is mahant at the Bade Hanuman temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj and also the Math Baghambri Gaddi.

He was produced in a Sydney court on May 6 and was remanded in custody till June 26.

Anand Giri has been denied bail.
