Prince William to ‘Honor’ Princess Diana on Pak Tour Where He’ll Meet Her Friend Jemima Goldsmith’s Ex-Husband Imran Khan

Tomorrow (Oct 14), Prince William and Kate Middleton will embark on their royal tour of Pakistan.

The five-day visit to the country – which has been described by Kensington Palace as their “most complex” to date – will see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attend a series of engagements focusing on security and the effects of climate change, as well as education for girls and young women.

However, during the trip – which will see the couple visit the capital, Islamabad, as well as Lahore, the mountains in the north and regions bordering Afghanistan in the west – the Queen’s grandson, 37, will seek to “honor” his late mother Princess Diana’s humanitarian work, according to The Times.

Royal Couple William and Kate to Visit Pakistan This Fall

In 1996 and 1997, shortly before she died in a fatal car accident, the princess visited the country to see her friend Jemima Goldsmith and then-husband Imran Khan, who is now the nation’s prime minister.

During the latter trip to Lahore, Diana was helping to raise funds for a cancer centre built in the city by Khan.

William is due to meet the 67-year-old former cricketer – who he has known since childhood – during next week’s tour, as well as Pakistan’s president Arif Alvi.

It is also thought the Duke and Duchess, who have left their three children at home, will see sites visited by the Queen during tours in 1961 and 1997.

A royal source said: “The duke and duchess will be covering a lot of ground and are keen to put Pakistan back on the map as a country that is now much safer than people expect it to be.”

Precise details of the trip to Pakistan – the first royal tour to the country in 13 years after Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall – haven’t been released for security reasons.

Imran and Jemima, who is now a journalist and producer based in the UK, both attended Diana’s funeral.

They share two sons, Sulaiman and Qasim, and divorced in 2004 after nine years of marriage.

Earlier this year, Jemima, 45, attended the wedding of Lady Gabriella Windsor, where William was also a guest.
