Congresswoman Ilhan Omar called on ousted Pakistani PM Imran Khan (Chairman PTI) at his Bani Gala residence in capital Islamabad.
The two discussed Islamophobia and related issues. @Ilhan (who was in Pakistan on an unofficial personal visit) expressed her admiration for @ImranKhanPTI and his position on and work against Islamophobia globally. Khan appreciated her courageous and principled position on issues.
The Congresswoman from Minnesota held public and official interactions as she visited the Line of Control (LoC) and Muzaffarabad in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to assess the ground situation. Rep. Omar also called on President Dr. Arif Alvi at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad and met with Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf at the Parliament House in Pakistani capital.
“Kashmir dispute is not getting enough attention in Washington, but it will change soon,” Ilhan Omar said during her visit to Azad Kashmir.
Omar also called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. “Appreciating her courage of convictions and her political struggle, the Prime Minister warmly welcomed her on her first-ever visit to Pakistan,” said PM Sharif.
A tweet by Mehr Tarar said, “Two Muslim leaders who constantly raise their voice against Islamophobia, whose stances are unambiguous, fearless. They speak up about Muslims being persecuted simply on the basis of their faith. What they do is heroic.”
Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib are the only US congress members who are banned from entering Israel. In 2019, the Israeli regime banned these two Muslim congresswomen from entering Israel for their strong criticism of Israel and for advocating Palestinian freedom struggle.
